Explore Luang Prabang Province in 4D3N
Laos Tour Explores 4 Provinces has two alternatives namely start the journey from Luang Prabang Province and end at Vientiane Province, or in reverse. Luang Prabang City located in the northern part of Laos. In 1995, UNESCO declared Luang Prabang City as Word Heritage City. It could be said that Luang Prabang is the most tourist destination due to its wonderful panorama, natural beauty, and ancient temples. A long time ago, it was the ancient Royal Capital before administratively moved to Vientiane. The influence of French on the traditional culture could be found in some architectural designs.
Day 1 Arrival and Sunset at Mount Phousi
Once you landed in the Luang Prabang International Airport, the local guide shall pick you up and transfer to the hotel. Check in and take a rest. Then, we could try Laos dishes for lunch and try the taste of Laos coffee. Then, we go to Mount Phousi. We could enjoy sunset until dark at the top of the mountain. Prepare some cash for the entrance fee (20,000 Kip/Person or $2.6/Person). Back to hotel and overnight.
Day 2 Temples, Museum, and Waterfalls
Start the morning by having breakfast at the hotel. At 9:00 AM we start the journey to explore Luang Prabang. Firstly, we make a visit to Wat Mai and Royal Palace and Museum. Wat Mai means “New Temple”, however, it is the oldest temple in Laos. Wat Mai also was known as the richest and most beautiful temple. Near to the Temple, there is Royal Palace and Museum. Established in 1904, the former Royal Palace reflects amalgamation between Laos Traditional and French architecture. Here, you could gather story of Laos and the Royal Family. Prepare some cash for entrance fee: Wat Mai 10,000 Kip/Person = $1.2/Person and Royal Palace 30,000 Kip/Person = $4/Person.
Then, we walk to another Temple Wat Xieng Thong which means the Golden City Temple. The King Setthathirat built it in 1559, it is the most charming Buddhist monastery in Laos. Travelers crowd the temple in the morning. Entrance fee of Wat Xieng Thong is 20,000 Kip/Person = $1.2/Person.
We walk down to reach Nam Khan River which is not too far from Wat Xieng Thong. Enjoy your leisure and relax time. You could do kayaking, rafting, and canoeing. After that, we make a lunch break.
After lunch, we go to the south of Luang Prabang City where we could find a waterfall. Kuang Si Waterfall is the biggest waterfall which could reach 50 m high. You should prepare 20,000, Kip/Person, to enter the site. Enjoy the three-layered pools with turquoise fresh water.
Day 3 Mekong River Trip and Pak Ou Caves
You should wake up early this morning to have breakfast. We shall join a boat trip on Mekong River to visit Pak Ou Caves. It is a holy site where you could found around 4,000 Buddha stupas at any positions. Before reaching the Caves, we make a short stop at Ban Xanghai Village. Here, you could learn how the local people make rice wine with the traditional method. You could also purchase local textiles weaving by them.
Arrive at Pak Ou Caves, you could see two caves called as Tham Ting and Tham Theung. Tham Ting, the lower cave is a place to pray. You may need to bring a torch to the upper cave. You need to prepare 20,000 Kip/Person for the entrance fee.
For lunch break, we could visit Kamu Lodge A Nam Ou, an ecotourism site near to Pak Ou Caves. Here, you could taste organic cuisine prepared by the local people. You could enjoy your lunch at the riverside restaurant and surround with green paddy fields.
Then, we disembark to Luang Prabang. On the evening, we could be hunt souvenirs and other stuff at the Night Market along Sisavangvong Road. Take a rest at the hotel to continue our journey to another Province.
Explore Xieng Khouang Province in 2D1N
Day 4 Luang Prabang – Xieng Khouang
The last day in Luang Prabang City. We continue Laos Tour Explores 4 Provinces to the second Province Xieng Khouang by land transportation. Approximately, we need 7 hours drive to reach the Province. Meanwhile, during the trip, you could enjoy green mountains, karst hills, and valleys. In addition, we could make some stops among other at Hmong Village. And we could interact with local people and observe daily life activities. Then, we have lunch at local restaurant. Finally reach Phonsavan, the Capital of Xieng Khouang. Check in at the hotel and overnight at Phonsavan.
Day 5 Plain of Jars
Plain of Jars is the most attractive spot when visiting Xieng Khouang. During the period between 1964 up to 1973, Xieng Khouang suffered the most devastation due to war and many conflicts. It was a battle zone that suffered the most heavily bombed. Therefore, the Province dedicated to war remnants. Plain of Jars or Plaine de Jarres is an archeological complex covers 1,000 square km area. There are 136 sites with hundreds of stone jars, but only three sites open for public. It still mysterious of the functions of the jars and it still remains as a hidden history.
At Xang Village, Muang Kham District, there is a Baw Nyai Hot Spring in a beautiful forest area. It has indoor bathing facilities. Then, you could cross the river via a bamboo bridge to reach Phuan Village. In Phuan Village, you could purchase beautiful weaving textiles.
Explore Vangvieng Province in 2D1N
Day 6 Xieng Khouang – Vangvieng
It is the day to leave Xieng Khouang to reach another Province, Vangvieng. The third Province of our Laos Tour Explores 4 Provinces. We leave the hotel and depart around 8:30 AM to Vangvieng. It will take 6 hours to reach the Province. Make a stop at Phonsavan Central Market to buy some local stuff. Then continue the trip to Vangvieng. During the trip, you could enjoy the stunning scenery of limestone outcrops, green rice fields, and Lao farm. Reach Vangvieng and overnight at the hotel.
Day 7 Explore Vangvieng
The day to explore Vangvieng, the third Province of Laos Tour Explores 4 Provinces. First stop is at Tham Chang Cave, the most famous tourist spot in the Province. It is also known as Elephant Cave, the oldest monastery in Vangvieng. Formerly, it was a bunker in a war against Yunannese Chinese in the early 19th Century. And, you should prepare 15,000, Kip/Person, to enter the cave. There is also Tham Nam or Water Cave where you could experience cave tubbing. The cost to enter the Cave is 10,000 Kip includes tube and flashlights.
Secondly, we visit Tham Phu Kam or Blue Lagoon and Cave. It is very popular due to the lagoon in the cave. The main chamber contains a Thai bronze reclining Buddha. Bring your own flashlights or you could rent it. You shall spend 10,000 Kip/Person as an admission fee to the Lagoon. Back to hotel for overnight.
Explore Vientiane Province in 3D2N
Day 8 Vangvieng – Vientiane
The end day at Vangvieng and continue the journey of Laos Tour Explores 4 Provinces to the forth Province, Vientiane. We will reach the Province after 3 hours by overland. We could make some stops at Nam Ngu Dam or Keun. Then continue the trip to Vientiane. Check in hotel and take a short rest.
In the afternoon, we visit Wat Sisaket. It is the oldest temple which was established in 1818. Wat Sisaket like a museum where thousands of Buddha images, paintings, sculptures from many countries. Another site that is worth to visit is Wat Prakeo. It is the former royal temple of the Lao Monarchy. Wat Prakeo was built in 1565 and also dedicated for Buddha.
Finally, we go to That Luang Stupa the Vientiane Great Stupa. It is a symbol of the country where you could see Patuxay Monument, the Vientiane’s own Arc de Triumph. It reaches 148 feet tall. Historically, the stupa was built in the 13th century by King Stthathirat. Every November, Lao People celebrates That Luang Festival where visitors could enjoy parades, dances, music, and ceremonies. We end the journey by enjoying the sunset at the Mekong River.
Day 9 Vientiane – Buddha Park
Vientiane is the largest city in Laos and its role as the capital city. Today, we start the morning by visiting the Morning Market. In the market, you could purchase antiquities, handmade textiles and souvenirs. Then, we go to the National Museum. It was a former revolutionary museum which opens daily except Tuesday. Another attractive spot at Vientiane is the Buddha Park. You could see 200 statues of Buddha and Hindu Gods.
Day 10 Departure
Breakfast at the hotel. Free program until the local guide transfers you to the Airport. End of the wonderful journey in Laos.
