A Travel Guide, YOEXPLORE – Does anyone know Karimunjawa Islands? Maybe some of you haven’t traveled there yet.  Karimunjawa, one of the interesting places in Indonesia, is an archipelago located in Jepara regency, Central Java. The access to go to Karimunjawa is very easy. You can go there by using the airplane to Dewadaru Airport or via the sea from Semarang Port, Jepara, and Kendal. Karimunjawa is a National Park since 2001 and as the home for coral reefs, marine biota, mangrove forests, and other rare fauna. The plant that characterizes Karimunjawa is the Dewadaru Tree or Crystocalyx Macrophyla. In 2009-2010, this National Park was open as one of the tourist attractions in Indonesia. Moreover, Karimunjawa is a huge island with the land area is approximately 1,500 hectares and the water is approximately 110,000 hectares. Among the 27 total islands, there are only 5 inhabited islands such as Parang Island, Karimunjawa Island, Nyamuk Island, Kemujan Island, and Genting Island. Where can you start your Karimunjawa Trip? The first things to do in Karimunjawa is definitely to enjoy the underwater view. To enjoy it, you can either dive or snorkeling. You will love to do so because the sea is so calm that you can enjoy every moment under the sea. There are many spots to dive or snorkeling in Karimunjawa. Some of the popular spots are Menjangan Kecil Island, Cilik Island, Tanjung Gelam Beach, Tengah Island, Cemara Island, Kemroko Beach, and Annora Beach.

2. Adrenaline Test In The Shark Breeding Ground

For those of you who like travel activities that arouse adrenaline, then the next things to do in Karimunjawa is to go to Menjangan Besar Island. In this island, you can try swimming with the shark. If you could only see sharks from behind a television screen, now you can swim with them. What an unforgettable experience! Don’t worry about your safety, because the shark in Menjangan Besar Island is not dangerous. You just need to pay attention to the instruction that given to you. Aside from seeing shark breeding, you can also see another breeding area for starfish and puffer fish. Make sure you bring your camera to take photos with starfish and puffer fish.

3. Explore The Mangrove Forest

Karimunjawa is not only known for its marine tourism but you can also explore the mangrove forest. This mangrove forest is located in Karimunjawa Island and Kemujan Island area. You can explore this mangrove forest through a wooden bridge located in the middle of the forest and also learn about the fauna. If you are done exploring mangrove forest, you can climb to the Viewing Post (Gardu Pandang) that offers the view of mangrove forest and Karimunjawa Islands from above. That is the third of five things to do in Karimunjawa.

4. Enjoy The Romantic View in Love Hill

The next things to do in Karimunjawa is to visit Love Hill. Love Hill is the best place to spend your afternoon with your partner. From the top of this hill, you can enjoy the west side view of Karimunjawa Island, crystal clear of the sea, and the mountains. Aside from those views, you should not miss the sunset view of this hill. You will also find the welcome statue that reads “Karimunjawa” and “Love”. Usually, the couple will take their photos with Love Statue, then you should try it too 🙂

5. The Last Things To Do In Karimunjawa Is To See The Sunset In Tanjung Gelam Beach

Tanjung Gelam Beach is known as the best spot to enjoy the sunset view. Tanjung Gelam Beach is located on the western tip of Karimunjawa Island or in the southwest part of Batu Mask Beach. That’s why this beach is the perfect location to see the sun to slowly disappear in the middle of the ocean. This beach is a promontory or land that juts into the sea and is in a cluster of Karimunjawa Island. Another interesting thing about Tanjung Gelam Beach is that the local people choose this beach as the location to celebrate Lomban Day. Lomban Day is annual traditional ceremony conducted one week after Eid Al-Fitr.
